Hello Beloved People of God,

There has been so much going on in the last few weeks.  We have much to pray about.

This coming Sunday our scriptures are 1 Corinthians 12:12-27 and Luke 21:1-4 and the message title is "Stone Soup".

Pastor Kim could use some help setting up for the Quiet Day Retreat next Friday.  We can set up some things Thursday afternoon around 2 p.m. - but because of scouts we can't set up everything until Friday morning.  So I could use some more help at about 8:30 on Friday, April 26.  If any of you are available to help out please let me know.  Thank you.

United Methodists respond to Boston Marathon bombings
As investigators search for answers, the people of The United Methodist Church offer prayer, comfort and resources for healing in the aftermath of the April 15 bombings at the Boston Marathon. “United Methodists from all over the world mourn with those who are mourning,” said Bishop Rosemarie Wenner, president of the Council of Bishops and bishop of the Germany Episcopal Area. “May God comfort and guide all who are troubled; and may United Methodists in Boston, in the U.S. and all over the world, unite with all Christians and all people of faith to serve as peace builders.”
United Methodist Communications, the global communications agency of The United Methodist Church, publicized a message of caring and hope on Wednesday in the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald. An image of hands folded in prayer is accompanied by the message, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Boston. Through the darkness, we come together in search of the light. The people of The United Methodist Church join with all of those in Boston affected by this recent tragedy. To understand. To heal. To find hope.”
The denomination is asking people around the globe to leave prayers for those affected by the attacks in Boston on their Facebook page at facebook.com/unitedmethodistchurch.
The United Methodist General Board of Discipleship has created a list of resources to help those affected cope with the bombings. Resources include articles on how to deal with trauma (including how to talk with children about the events in Boston), hymns and songs in response to terrorism, music for an offertory prayer song and a special hymn about coping with terrorism, appropriate calls to worship, and an act of praise response to terrorism. You can find the resources at gbod.org/live-the-um-way/terrorism-and-violence.
Boston Area Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar has written a letter to the New England Conference, calling for prayer. “Along with you I grieve for those that lost their lives and their families, and for those injured in this tragic event,” the bishop wrote. Devadhar asks that if anyone knows United Methodists affected to contact Alexx Wood, conference communicator. Her e-mail is communicate@neumc.org. More ...

This coming week it is Earth Day - Silverbrook UMC is in the process of becoming a Green Church. Check out this link that Kevin found to see what others are doing:   Here is an interesting article about a Methodist church combining their Christian faith with concern for the environment: "Creation Care".

And we need to pray for our world......
NORTH KOREAN CHRISTIANS ASK FOR PRAYERS
North Korean church leaders are asking Christians worldwide to pray for their
country amid increased war threats and combat preparation by North Korean military
officials. There are 200,000 to 400,000 Christians in North Korea, including
an estimated 60,000 to 80,000 in political prison camps, according to www.worldwatchlist.us
<http://www.worldwatchlist.us/>. Prayer for the underground Christians in North
Korea is more important than ever, says Open Doors, an organization that supports
persecuted Christians in 60 countries.-Religion News Service

Retreat Center News
Join Silverbrook UMC in our Retreat Center as we offer quiet days for adults to reflect, be still, and find rest away from the stressful world as they seek to deepen their relationship with God. reflect, be still, and find rest away from the stressful world as they seek to deepen their relationship with God.

Do not be fooled into thinking that we are filled with white haired folks ready for the adjacent grave yard.  We are mostly middle aged and young families.  Most of the original families and members were bought out by the developers and moved, so at this time, we are essentially a 14 year old church.  We are in a time of revitalization and growth as we transition from a dying church to a living one with a future.  Won’t you come and join us?

UM WEB SITE OPENS CHURCH DOORS

There are thousands of ways to be church in the world, and UMs do not want to miss any of them in an innovative Web site inviting a new generation into a life of faith and service. The UMC  launched http://www.rethinkchurch.org/  as part of the Rethink Church campaign using nontraditional methods to reach young adults and others in relevant ways. There are more ways to enter church and begin a spiritual journey than just coming into the front door of a building. “Faith itself is a bridge by which we see God and the work of God present in our world,” says the Rev. Larry Hollon, General Secretary of United Methodist  Communications (UMCOM). “God is not contained in the walls of our sacred buildings. God is in the streets, at the well, in the least expected places.”
